Words can not describe the phenomenal growth and rewarding experience I've had working with Mardis.
I wanted to perform better in my pageants, especially during the interview portion of the competition. The very first pageant I competed in was Miss Maryland USA 2017. I did not place but I had such an amazing experience that I wanted to continue competing in pageants. I found Mardis through another contestants profile and did my research. He spoke with me extensively about my experience and why I wanted to continue with pageants.

I took note of his offer but did not follow through with this great asset. Months later, without any pageant prep or coaching, I won the state title of Maryland Miss 2017 under the Princess America Pageant System. This was a big deal to me because Adrianna David (Miss Maryland USA 2017) and Christina Denny (Miss Maryland 2013 and Miss Maryland USA 2016) were previous winners of the same title. Adrianna David was Maryland Miss 2016 and Christina Denny was Maryland Miss 2015 in the Princess America system and both placed in the semi-finals at nationals. The pressure was on to see if I could continue the trend.

I immediately knew after my crowning I needed to get to work.I needed an overall mentor and coach that could help me build emotionally and mentally. I didn't start working with Mardis until after I received my results from the Miss Teen Maryland United States pageant where I placed first runner up. I discovered that the interview portion was my weakest phase of competition. After reflecting on my scores, I immediately called Mardis. His record with my friend Dominique Davis (Miss Maryland USA 2017 non-semifinalist Evening gown winner ) and Terri Baumann (Miss Maryland USA 2017 non-semifinalist Interview winner) could no longer be ignored.

I knew I was in the right hands. Mardis took me under his wing and not only helped with prepping me for the three phases of competition but also helped with building my confidence. With his creative ways of having his clients think on their feet in any environment definitely transferred well on the stage! Every detail he engrained into my habits in practice showed on stage. My goal was to make top ten at the Princess America Nationals. With Mardis on my team, I took home 2nd runner up. The best gift you can give yourself is someone who genuinely cares about your success. The best gift you can give yourself is Mardis.

My journey with Mardis was one that I appreciate so much! I believe it takes a village to raise a child and that is no different when preparing for a pageant. Mardis’ style of coaching is one I never heard of and that is the reason I decided to work with him. He is very hands on, engaging and I felt connected the entire time leading up to and during pageant weekend. One of my favorites was receiving crown mail! It was either a text or voice message from Mardis, going over what we worked on in practice or something he may have thought about after a Saturday session.

It made me feel important and I knew he was invested in working with me to become a better me. Our one on one sessions were priceless. We went through interview, walk patterns, wardrobe and production forms. Mardis was always very flexible and that made it easy to fit pageant prep into my busy schedule. Each time we met we focused on improving from the time before. He pulled from my strengths and noticed things about me that I didn’t even notice myself. One of his approaches to coaching by working on the mechanics, help you in other areas of life; win, win! Thank you, Mardis, so much for believing in me!

To anyone thinking about working with Mardis Hall-- DO IT!
He knows what he's talking about. He has experience judging for many various pageants, and his wife has done pageantry as well. When Mardis works with you, you get his full attention. When I did Miss Illinois USA, he was there to facetime me when I needed to shop for a last minute interview dress, as well as all throughout the pageant. He was very helpful and gave me many tips! His encouragement helped me believe in what I was capable of. |
Not only that, but he realized that I had been highly critical of myself- something that I did not notice. Once I realized this and fixed it, my overall performance and confidence on stage totally changed. Mardis is a very supportive, caring, and genuine individual. You will feel motivated and feel supported when working with him!
What he helped me with: Interview- Once they released the judges, he helped me understand what the best things would be to reveal about myself to each individual judge. I learned that an interview doesn't have to be scary, but a conversation. |
Interview outfit- Mardis knew exactly what I needed to get and was very helpful with every single detail of my outfit. He knows what he's talking about!
Opening- Mardis helped me with my voice inflections and how to enunciate every syllable of my name. It was very helpful! Walk- When competing, he watched me compete and took recordings of it so I could look back on what I needed to fix. This was very helpful! He had very interesting and helpful commentary for me afterwards. There are many things he could help with, but that is what he helped me on personally. I loved working with him and look forward to it in the future! |
